Learn the basics of gliding with this starter card. Make 5 introductory flights under the guidance of an experienced pilot. The whole basis of gliding is covered.

What are you going to do?

There are 5 introductory flights with an instructor included in this package. So you get the chance to learn the basics of gliding.

Your day starts in the morning at 10.30 at the hangar of the gliding club. You start with the briefing. This is how the gliding is always started. The weather conditions, flight planning and all other relevant things for the day are discussed. Before you start flying, you get theory about the basics of flying. Then you go to the aircraft for inspection.

And then it's time for the first flight! With a tow plane, you will be pulled up to 500 metres high, far above the beautiful landscape. With your hands loosely on the control stick, you feel what the pilot is doing. Of course everything goes at a pace you feel comfortable with. On a day with little or no thermals, you will be towed higher up into the sky so that you can still gain sufficient flying experience.

Discover the club life of the gliding club and see if this world is for you. Who knows, maybe this is a stepping stone to a complete training as a glider pilot? Depending on your aptitude and commitment, you will learn:

the instruments
basic flight manoeuvres
the tow
landing the aeroplane under the supervision of the instructor
thermalling

After the flights you will have the opportunity to ask all your questions to the instructor. The flights have to be made in a period of 4 weeks. Therefore we recommend you to plan 2 flights per flight day.

Location

Gliding with a drag start can be done at the airfield of Weelde. The airfield is located in Belgium, near Turnhout and the Dutch border. The airfield has a cosy bar. There is always a lot of activity and you can enjoy all the gliders that fly continuously to and fro. This will make you look forward to your own flight even more.

Complete training

The courses are a good basis for learning to glide. The next step is solo flying. On average you will need 30 to 70 training flights for this. The last step is getting your SPL licence. With this licence you are allowed to fly all over Europe.

Remarks

Gliding is seasonal and has a limited capacity. So book well in advance
We only fly when there is sufficient visibility and the wind is not too strong.
If the agreed flying day is cancelled due to bad weather conditions, you will receive a message before 08.30 at the latest that you do not have to come. If you do not receive a message, you will come to the airport as agreed.
You are expected at 10.30 hrs at the gliding club.
For insurance reasons all starts must be flown within a period of 4 weeks.
The voucher is not personal but once the course has started it is not possible to change students anymore.
There will be no refund if the course is not completed
The course can also be given in English
There is no catering facility at this location. Please bring your own lunch and drinks.
